Mike and Rachael Grossman are a dynamic father-daughter duo excited to participate in this year’s Dancing with Our Stars event! Team Strega DOC!
Dr. Mike Grossman, “Doc,” is a long time West End star, now a “retired” family doctor. He moved to Negaunee from Ohio in 1980 to start his medical practice. He was active in the community and volunteered for many years as Negaunee High School’s team doctor for football and other sports. After his retirement in 2020 from his primary family medicine practice, he’s shifted his focus to part-time work in hospice and addiction recovery medicine. He’s the medical director of U.P. Home Health & Hospice, as well as being very involved in the Trillium House. Making house calls for his hospice patients is one of his greatest joys. Caring for patients at the Great Lakes Recovery Centers also occupies much of his time. Needless to say, hospice is near and dear to his heart, and while he’s been invited many times to participate in the Dancing with Our Stars, his wife Helen didn’t feel they had the dance moves to join in the fun. Luckily for you all, his daughter Rachael enthusiastically agreed to dance with him this year! Mike is a lover of the outdoors, and enjoys time spent swimming, songwriting, and playing his guitar.
Rachael Grossman, “Strega,” is a native of Negaunee and the owner of Negaunee’s new beloved hip and happening restaurant, Strega Nonna. She’s thrilled that returning home has allowed her to be a part of bringing life and of course, great food, to the community.
Rachael loves dancing and art of all types, though her real passion and talents are cooking, hosting, gathering people, throwing parties, and recreating inspiration brought by her travels in Italy and throughout the world. Rachael lived in Portland, Oregon for the past 15 years, where she owned and operated her restaurant, Artigiano, which featured authentic regional Italian food. While she still has ties there and pops up in Portland occasionally, she now primarily resides here in Negaunee. In her spare time, she is a lover of cross-country skiing, open water swimming, her dog Blanca, traveling, and cooking with friends and family.
Rachael and Doc are eager to participate in this year’s Dancing with Our Stars. Even though their dancing skills might be sub-par, they’re great at hosting fundraisers, and are excited to be a part of raising awareness and enthusiasm for this great cause!
